Today’s Assignment

Hello! Yesterday we worked on a wind weathering and erosion assessment. Today you will finish it. You should already have it with you from yesterday. :)Remember: Wind weathers big rocks (sandstone) into sediment (sand). When the wind carries away the sediment (sand) it continues to weather other rocks because the sand beats on the rocks. In the end, the wind deposits the sand into sand dunes.
Hint: A windbreak can be anything that slows down the wind such as a row of tall trees( with or without leaves) a barn, house, shed, mountain, etc. A windbreak is important for farmers because without it the wind will dry out (like a hair dryer) the soil and erode the top layers of soil.
Hint: A dust storm does pretty much the same thing as a sandstorm. A dust storm is comprised of strong winds that erode/carry away soil (DUST). As the dust is being carried it weathers other rocks and moves/erodes more soil before depositing it usually on the side of a windbreak. (Have you ever seen piles of soil, snow, or sand piled up behind a barn wall or shed?) During a dust storm the wind dries out (like a hairdryer) the soil, making it bad for planting.
Good Luck, my dears! Even though you are so determined, you don’t need luck!
