Today’s Assignment

At this point, you should have a library copy of “The Great Gatsby.” If you do not, don’t despair. It’s a classic, so there are many ways to access it for free without leaving your home. It’s available on the “Libby” library app if you have an eReader or eReading app like Kindle. I’ll also include a link to a free digital pdf of the full text and a chapter-by-chapter read-along on YouTube.
For today, read chapter two and respond in 150 to 200 words (the AP course may wish to expand a little further). For chapter two, consider the following questions in your response: By this point in the novel, you’ve already seen and and heard the way several different characters have tried to achieve “The American Dream.” Nick Carraway, the narrator, has left the Midwest to come to the Eastern Seaboard for just that reason. In this chapter, we meet Myrtle Wilson. What was her attempt to find “The American Dream”? Compare it to the choice of any other character. Alternatively, you might discuss this party that Nick attends. At what point did you know it was going to go off the rails a bit?
