7th Grade – Mathematics – David Smith

Today’s Assignment

Day one’s lesson will begin with a 4 minute video that the students will view titled, “How do you turn a verbal phrase into a two step equation?” They will then watch a second video reviewing algebraic expressions lasting 2 minutes and 13 seconds. This video is titled, “How do you evaluate an algebraic expression with one variable?” Once they have completed the review videos, they will have a 10 question Practice and Problem Solving assignment that I expect to take the average student 20 minutes to complete. This assignment has features that allow the students to get assistance with each question by getting hints, examples, or watching additional videos. Once they have received an acceptable grade on the Practice and Problem Solving, the students will take a 5 question quiz expected to take them 15 minutes maximum. The key concept for today’s lesson will be, ‘algebraic expressions can be used to represent problems with unknown or variable values’ and ‘values can be substituted for variables to evaluate the expression.’ The I can statement for this lesson is ‘I can write and evaluate algebraic expressions’. Covering standards 7.EE.B.3, 7.EE.B.4
